Julius Caesar Vocabulary - Act I

  • plebeian- a commoner in Ancient Rome

  • tribune - an elected official in Ancient Rome, chosen by the plebeians

  • fickle - changing frequently, especially as regards one's loyalties, interests, or affection

  • insolent - showing a rude and arrogant lack of respect

  • impertinent - not showing proper respect; rude

  • astound - to shock or greatly surprise

  • epilepsy - a brain disorder which causes sudden recurring episodes of loss of consciousness, or convulsions, related to abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

  • Ides of March - March 15th

  • perilous - full of danger or risk

  • monstrosity - something, especially a building, that is very large and is considered unsightly

  • oppression - cruel or unfair treatment or control over a long period of time

  • omen - an event that is a considered to be a sign of good or evil

  • conspiracy - a secret plan by a group to do something against the law or harmful
